Ninety seconds. Your breed, your city, your emergency fund. We show the worst bill you are exposed to and the expected cost of insuring against it, as modelled estimates, not quotes.
Breed changes expected vet spend far more than most owners expect, because a handful of known conditions do most of the damage. Our breed pages show the conditions and typical bills behind each risk score. Browse breeds →
It compares your emergency fund with the worst single bill your breed is likely to face at your city's prices. At least 1.2 times that bill and you can probably self-insure; under half of it and one bad bill would exceed your fund; anything between is a close call. It also shows expected lifetime premiums, expected payouts and the expected net cost of insuring (premiums minus payouts), with the assumptions behind each.
The premiums are modelled from breed size, city price level and age. They are modelled estimates, not insurer quotes, and real quotes vary, so get at least two before you decide.
